Healthy Living

Proobably no single factor influences the health of a community in our society more than good housing.  Shalom Homes, established in 2006, is the housing development arm of Pathways.  It is a separate entity with its own board of directors, working in cooperation with the Pathways board to make decent, sustainable, affordable housing available in Petersburg.  The program has three components:

Single Family Homes
Homeownership is made possible through new construction or gut rehabilitation of existing structures in the Farmer St. and historic Battersea and Folly Castle neighborhoods.  Pathways is able to help qualifying first time home buyers by providing financial assistance through a grant of deferred loan.

Green Building
All of our new single-family homes are EarthCraft and EnergyStar certified providing home owners with an assurance that their house was built using green construction techniques, that it meets an objective healthy living standard, and that it was built to provide energy cost savings.

Lead Hazard Reduction
Pathways is committed to addressing lead paint issues that come from a history of lead paint use in older homes.  Families and their belongings are temporarily relocated as their homes are made lead safe and education and needed medical assistance are provided.
